Master’s Message & From the West – April 2020

Master’s Message

My Brother,

The Roads and Airports are deserted, the shopping malls shuttered, Churches, Gymnasiums, Restaurants, Movie Theaters, Barber Shops, Casinos, and Freemasonry are all standing still. The uncertainty of this invisible little menace is wreaking havoc on the way of life we have become accustomed to. At 61 years of age, I can say I have never seen anything like this before. I do not remember the Great Depression and the daily hardships of that time. Nor do I remember the second World War, and the sacrifices made by ordinary people. My exposure is limited to Vietnam, The Arab Oil Embargo, the Aids Epidemic, The World Trade Center, Tech Bubble, Housing Bubble, and I will add COVID-19 to the collection of miserable things I have lived through.

The five most important words in the above paragraph are “ Things I have lived through.” Our current situation is not good. The hardships we are facing are yet unknown and that unknown is devastating. That unknown’s devastation is wiping vast amounts of wealth off the board compounding the problem.

As Worshipful Master I do not know when things will get better, but better they will get. We will get used to our current situation, and when this situation does turnaround, Freemasonry will still be here. Freemasonry may not be holding their scheduled meetings, yet we are still open. Your Lodge is here to serve you. As the days to come may get better, or worse, the one constant should be taking care of your immediate family and circle of friends. Stay out of harms way, and remember that our obligation is to give as their necessity may seem to require, or your ability to give will permit. In Freemasonry we have hope, hope for a better future, hope for mankind, and I add Hope this will end sooner rather than later.

Please look in on those brethren who are alone. Please offer assistance to others if you can. If you need someone to talk to call me, or one of the officers listed. We are here for you. We will survive this. I look forward to the day we meet again.

Fraternally,

Mike Holt,
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren,

Due to the current public health emergency, the Grand Master has suspended all Masonic activity though the end of March. It is not clear at this time whether the suspension will continue into April.

Since there is uncertainty as to when the public health emergency will conclude. Please note that ALL DATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE OR CANCELLATION. Please be sure to stay up-to-date with all of the updates from the Lodge Secretary. The Lodge calendar can be accessed by visiting the Lodge website and clicking the “Calendar” link at the top of the page.

If you have questions please reach out to us. If you feel ill or unwell, stay home. Please do not risk the health of yourself, your family, or your Brethren. First and foremost, you should be taking care of yourself and your family in this difficult time.

Please reach out to the WM, SW, or Secretary if you need assistance and we will do our best to help.

Fraternally,

Bryan S. Passione,
Senior Warden

Master’s Message & From the East – March 2020

Master’s Message

My Brother,

Every Freemason in the world joined Freemasonry for a reason. For some it was the legacy of their family, others for the charitable work, and others still for the educational opportunities. These men could have also joined for Fellowship, camaraderie, esoteric teachings, Veterans, Widows, Friends, Work opportunities, maybe some still had nothing better to do. Whatever your reason for becoming, and remaining a member of Lafayette Lodge, you joined for the right reason. Once you’re a member the reasons for why you joined become less important, and the question becomes why do you stay? For me I truly enjoy the exchange of ideas, and the excitement that Freemasonry provides me. I enjoy the company of the many friends I have made over the years, and yes Freemasonry keeps me balanced. So I stay. To see what will happen next. To witness for myself Freemasonry truly making good men better.

I deviate from my usual colorful message style this month to ask you a very important question. If your Lodge, or Freemasonry in general needed your help would you give it? If your answer is no, go read something else. I have enclosed a card with this Trestleboard. This card comes from a workshop we ran with the Brethren of New Jersey. It explains the Masonic Brand (the Square and Compasses) and draws your attention to “What Masons Do.” It is a Masonic Talking point card for you to write your name, phone number, and Lodge name and number, do this and put it in your wallet. I ask you to in the course of your daily life, the next time you talk to a stranger, give it to him. Let’s see what happens. If you are uncomfortable giving your information, put my name and number, or someone else’s name and number on it. The idea is to give it away. (Then get another one).

It seems very simple, and it is. We are the greatest Fraternity in the world, the number one reason men do not join our ranks? They were never asked.

Fraternally,

Mike Holt,
Worshipful Master

From the East

Brethren,

On Friday March 13th Lafayette Lodge No. 27 will have their Official Visit of RW Ronald A. Murad DDGM.

The menu for the evening will be Chicken Francaise, Sausage and Peppers, Pasta, Salad, Beverages. If our menu is better than your menu at home, come on out, have dinner, and enjoy some Freemasonry. You will without question be welcomed, and have fun.

Fraternally,

Mike Holt,
Worshipful Master
