Master’s Message & From the West – May 2020

Master’s Message

My Brother,

The phrase ‘the lights are on but nobody is home” appears in our daily lexicon. Often it is a derogatory term used to indicate that the gray matter between someone’s ears may be lacking, or that someone is truly not at home. In our degree work, the Entered Apprentice Degree, the first degree, men are prepared to be brought in and made members. During this degree the candidate says 7 words. These words are: it is, in God, I am, Light. First of all, I do not know who thought of getting the candidates to say this, it is a brilliant idea. Second, when brought to their attention the brother should realize each soul is, or should be, a light of God.

In these trying times people (our members included) are scared to go outside, scared to interact with each other, scared to touch anything, masked, gloved, sanitized. Due to the profound changes in the way we are operating, our light has dimmed, and it now seems that every man is in it for himself. In the short term I suppose this is a new normal for humanity. In the longer term it can be devastating. I suggest to you the Covid is bad. It is however temporary. Being temporary means the lights will go back on, and as fast as things open up, we will slowly get back to our beloved Freemasonry using whatever the protocols of the day demand.

The officers of Lafayette Lodge are looking forward to the day we meet in person again. We have much to discuss, and vote on. We have quite a few degrees in the pipeline, and are making some necessary changes to the outside of the Lodge. The lodge officers are contacting the members for wellness checks. In short we have our eye on the ball for the day.

In the meantime, turn your lights on. Be the empathetic, compassionate, true man that entered this fraternity. And remember it is in God you are light.

Fraternally,

Mike Holt,
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren,

Since there is uncertainty as to when the public health emergency will conclude. Please note that ALL DATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE OR CANCELLATION. Please be sure to stay up-to-date with all of the updates from the Lodge Secretary. The Lodge calendar can be accessed by visiting the Lodge website and clicking the “Calendar” link at the top of the page.

Once the Grand Master’s restriction on Masonic activities has ended, dates for rehearsals and the Entered Apprentice Degree will be rescheduled.
